The redevelopment of the Bluewater Health Center marks one of the most significant redevelopments in Sarnia-Lambton’s long history. A total of 325,000 square feet of the existing facility was renovated, more than doubling the size, while 285,000 square feet of new space was added. Construction, which began in 2007, was completed in April of 2010. The improvements helped make Bluewater Health Center one of Canada’s first LEED-certified hospitals.
HTS supplied major HVAC equipment for the improved facilities. The $214.1-million project includes a renovation of the existing hospital building and the construction of a new seven-storey facility that includes a new emergency department and eight new operating rooms. The number of beds assigned for acute care has increased by an estimated 32 percent.
