The City of Cambridge’s administration building was the first city hall in Canada to receive LEED-Gold certification. That designation was achieved after the new 85,000- square-foot administration building opened downtown in 2008. The design of the building focused primarily on energy conservation, with an estimated annual cost savings of about 42%.
HTS was selected to provide HVAC equipment. The building’s unique atrium has a four-storey living wall which acts as a bio-filter and provides clean air that is circulated through the mechanical HVAC system to the entire building. The building has a “green” roof, meaning part of the roof is composed of native plants, grasses and shrubs. The roof helps the building retain heat in the winter and makes it cooler in the summer, thereby conserving energy. Inside, the open concept allows for greater air flow and penetration of natural light. The ventilation system includes high-efficiency air filters and an energy-efficient chiller with free cooling mode.
HTS provided the following equipment:
- McQuay Centrifugal Chiller
- Haakon Custom Air Handling Units
- McQuay Fan coil Units
- Sigma Hot Water Radiation
- Xylem/Bell & Gossett pumps and heat exchangers
