The $259 million redevelopment of Henderson General Hospital makes it one of Hamilton Health Sciences’ largest hospital building projects. HTS Ontario was chosen as supplier for HVAC equipment for the project, which involved 400,000 square feet of new construction and more than 25,000 square feet of renovation. The expansion was aimed at improving inpatient and outpatient services for acute care support for the Juravinski Cancer Centre, Arthroplasty Program and general hospital services with the new 442-foot-long section of the hospital.
The new facility, set to be complete in 2012, will house a state-of-the-art emergency department, an expanded intensive care unit and cardiac care unit as well as 90 inpatient beds for cancer care. It also will feature a total of eight new operating rooms and an additional cancer therapy suite, which also can also be used as alternative operating space. The construction will include 14 “negative pressure” rooms to manage the treatment of infectious diseases safely.
