This new 42,000 square-foot Waterloo Region Museum in Kitchener is located at the Doon Heritage Crossroads, where the region’s one-time main settlement road met the old rail line connecting Kitchener and Cambridge. The $22.7 million museums, which focuses on being located at the historic crossroads, was created to tell about the region’s past. The museum uses local sources of building materials like wood and stone to reflect the area’s unique sense of place and history. The museum also acts as a gateway to a living history village. The one-of-a-kind design of the building, which will showcase much of the region’s history, will be aiming to achieve a LEED Silver designation upon full completion.
