West Memorial Place is an office complex in Houston’s Energy Corridor, which includes two buildings and two parking garages. The buildings were designed to utilize energy efficient equipment, and were constructed out of glass and stone exterior to reduce heat gain to the building. HTS worked with TD Industries and Wylie Consulting Engineers to equip the complex with an HVAC system that meets efficiency standards which will allow the facility to apply for LEED Platinum certification after one year of operation.
HTS was chosen as basis of design for the project based on product selection, efficiency, quality and service. Four Daikin Magnetic Bearing Chillers were chosen for installation based on their efficiency and oil-free system design which requires less maintenance. Two Haakon Energy Recovery Units were also installed to reduce the amount of energy required to cool the system while improving indoor air quality.
The system also included 28 Daikin Vision Plus Air Handling Units, 10 Krueger Fan Coil Units, 8 Danfoss VLT Variable Frequency Drives, and 2 Daikin VRV Systems. A primary goal for West Memorial Place was to reduce sound input from the equipment, and the installed system will produce minimal noise, allowing the building to lease more office space around mechanical rooms and overall create a better work environment.
