We’re Speaking at TAHFM!

Mike Donovan, HTS Texas President, will be joined by William Dietrich, Product General Manager, Chillers at Daikin Applied Americas to present “Refrigerants: Where are we headed in North America?” in the Codes and Standards Track. Learn about the basics surrounding the refrigerant issues being raised by new climate considerations, and what we can do to solve these issues. This presentation will cover alternative options, safety measures, performances, and next steps. Join us on Tuesday, April 2nd at 11:15 a.m. in the Hibiscus Ballroom, 3rd floor.

The refrigerant issue is back! Those of you who have been in the industry for some time may remember the transition away from CFCs and HCFCs. With new climate considerations, many of the refrigerants we are using today are being called into question for the future. This presentation will cover the of the basics surrounding the refrigerant issue: alternatives, safety, performance, and next steps.

About the presenters:

Mike Donovan | President, Owner HTS Texas

Mike Donovan, 2009, 2010 and 2015 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalist, is the president and owner of HTS Texas. In this role, he has incorporated market-changing, innovative concepts, and personalized customer service, enabling the company to grow from start-up to gross $163 million in 2015, receive Houston Business Journal’s Fast 100 award in 2010 and 2014, and Houston Chronicle’s Best Workplaces Award in 2010 and 2011.

Along with numerous top sales achievement awards from York International and Daikin Applied, Donovan has earned the Daikin Applied Pinnacle Award twice, a prestigious honor that commends leaders who help their companies grow and increase market presence and community involvement while promoting employee and supplier relations.

Donovan is a member of the Young Presidents Organization (Gulf States Chapter) and, over the past decade, has served on several industry advisory boards where he was involved in the research and development, marketing, operations and engineering support of new product development. He is an alumnus of Entrepreneurs Organization and Houston Business Journal’s 40 under 40. Donovan is a LEED Accredited Professional and holds ASHRAE High-Performance Building Design Professional (HBDP) and Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP) certifications.

Donovan serves on the ASHRAE Board of Governors and he is the Regional Vice Chairman for Research Promotion from 2015-2018. In 2014 he received the Jack Thompson Award for best Region VIII president and was awarded the William J. Collins, Jr. Research Promotion Award in 2013, which recognizes a committee member for raising significant ASHRAE research funds. Donovan received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Texas A&M University and attended Houston Stratford High School. He was also honored as a member of the prestigious Aggie 100 in 2010, 2012 and 2013, and 2014 which recognizes top Aggie-owned businesses and leaders throughout the world.

Donovan is an active member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church and School Community. He provides financial contributions towards St. Cecilia’s annual golf tournament, Athletic Fund, Forward in Remembrance Campaign, school auction, annual fund, and Dad’s softball tournament. Donovan financially contributes on an annual basis to the Memorial Hermann Heroes in Health, +Works, and ASHRAE research, and donates to muscular dystrophy, cancer research, and other pervasive developmental disorder charities. He is very supportive of the Houston Based Parish School, whose mission is to identify, educate and empower children who have language and learning differences.

William Dietrich | Product General Manager, Chillers – Daikin Applied Americas

Product General Manager for Chillers at Daikin Applied Americas. This includes all air cooled and water cooled Centrifugal and Positive Displacement machines. Prior to joining Daikin Applied, Bill was the Vice President of Global Engineering for Baltimore Aircoil Company. In addition, Bill spent many years at both McQuay and York International prior to joining BAC.

With over 30 years’ experience in the industry, Bill has held numerous Engineering and Marketing Applications positions addressing commercial/industrial HVAC equipment (chillers, AHU, rooftops, cooling towers, and evaporative condensers) and systems using these components.

He has a deep chiller background and was involved in the transition from CFCs and HCFCs to HFCs and is actively involved in the work and discussions regarding the new low GWP refrigerants.

Bill has a BSME from the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management. He is active in industry organizations such as AHRI and ASHRAE. Past chair of TC 8.2, Centrifugal Machines, and the ASHRAE CEC, and a recipient of the ASHRAE distinguished service award. He is currently an active member AHRI and Vice-Chair of the Chiller Section Committee.
