At Robarts School for the Deaf, the HVAC solution was carefully selected to meet both logistical and performance requirements. Haakon air handling units were chosen for their longevity and the ability to ship in knockdown sections, allowing for delivery through existing wall openings, which was a key consideration for this retrofit project.
The upgrade also contributed to the school’s decarbonization efforts. DriSteem humidifiers were provided to replace the existing gas-fired units, offering an all-electric alternative that supports energy efficiency. Daikin air-cooled condensing units were used to provide cooling, and a Daikin VRF split system was included to serve specific heating and cooling zones. Additional upgrades included airflow displays and variable frequency drives (VFDs) on the Haakon air handling units to enhance energy efficiency, along with Xylem pumps and heat exchangers to complete the hydronic system.
