The four original AHUs in this 6 story lab building were in bad shape; they weren’t getting proper airflow throughout the building, and the exhaust fans weren’t pressurizing spaces correctly. HTS was chosen as the basis of design to overcome these issues with an easy-to-install solution. With a tiny elevator to get the equipment to the top floor, this was no easy feat.
88,000 CFM of Q-PAC fan arrays were installed, customized to fit the existing air tunnel. Combined with Aerofin spit-fit coils, the airflow requirement was met and helped the project come in under budget. Twin City exhaust fans with coated fans were used to handle the lab chemicals in the building, and a Daikin AHU was installed in the basement to replace an existing unit.
Prior to this project, SMU typically used UV lights in their units, but in order to do this, the interior must be covered with sheet metal so the insulation doesn’t breakdown. We worked with them on an alternative, GPS lights, to further save money on this project and expose them to a cheaper choice for future renovations.
