St John the Evangelist Catholic School’s history dates to 1853. As early as 1856, Catholic children received instruction in the church sacristy, this became the first “school”. In 1921, a four-room modern school replaced this historic schoolhouse. Currently, the Toronto Catholic District School Board is in the process of replacing the existing building. The expanded school will include more open space and play areas, as well as more parking and a city-operated daycare facility.
