On this project, Bauer Manufacturing incorporated the first open air paint booth in the United States into their Conroe, TX facility. This modern design was duplicated from a Bauer factory paint booth in Germany using just pictures and diagrams.
The HTS Texas Controls group was selected to work with the design and construction teams to implement a safe and reliable HVAC and controls system for this Bauer paint booth. The team was required to incorporate a web-based graphic interface and push-button panel to control the booth.
The final system design contained a 30,000 cfm Haakon energy recovery unit (ERU) and a large Haakon filtration unit feeding 32 diffusers separated into five zones. Per the design, only one zone is able to operate at a time. Large metal floor plates, which are separated into five separate zones, are controlled by 94 large pneumatic actuators and are opened and closed to return air to the Haakon unit. The zones can be enabled from a main push-button panel, a remote push-button panel or through the graphical web interface. Once a zone is enabled, the ERU will supply 25,000 cfm and exhaust 30,000 cfm to make sure all paint particles in the space are returned and sent through the filtration unit.
Ultimately, Bauer Manufacturing received an open-air paint booth that met or exceeded all of their requirements while still duplicating the booth at their German facility.
