In an effort to modernize and meet stringent environmental mandates, 447 McKeown Ave in North Bay, Ontario recently underwent a complete HVAC overhaul. Aging equipment and a government directive to utilize green refrigerants triggered the need for an upgrade to the building’s air handling and cooling systems.
HTS played a pivotal role, delivering a complete, energy-efficient solution tailored to meet both the building’s needs and the sustainability goals of the project. The mechanical overhaul featured the installation of a large, custom-built Haakon air handling unit and two Daikin water-cooled chillers equipped with eco-friendly R513A refrigerant, marking the first installation of Daikin chillers with this “green” refrigerant in Canada.
To ensure minimal disruption to the building occupants during construction, temporary Daikin air handlers were deployed, maintaining comfort and continuity.
The newly upgraded HVAC system not only aligns with modern environmental regulations but also enhances indoor air quality, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort—transforming the building into a sustainable, comfortable workspace for years to come.
HTS supplied the following equipment:
- Haakon Air Handling Unit
- Daikin Temporary Air Handlers (for building cooling during construction)
- 2 Daikin Water-Cooled Chillers with R513A Refrigerant
