Bell County undertook a major demolition effort to replace aging McQuay/Daikin water-cooled chillers, pumps, and cooling towers serving the Justice Complex and Jail. The project involved removing the existing water-cooled chillers, pumps, VFDs, electrical connections, and all supply and return piping within the chiller plant, as well as dismantling and removing four (4) Evapco cooling towers.
Following demolition, a 60’ x 85’ concrete pad was installed for the new equipment, requiring the relocation of underground utilities, including gas piping, gas meters, electrical lines, sprinkler systems, and roof drainage. The upgraded system includes five (5) new Daikin AGZ230 air-cooled chillers and five (5) B&G inline pumps, with new piping connecting to the existing chilled water supply and return lines in the Green Mile. All new control valves, sensors, strainers, and isolation valves were installed, with insulated piping to maximize efficiency.
The electrical infrastructure was enhanced with a new service connection from the existing electrical room, and a full Distech controls system was integrated to manage the chillers, pumps, and supporting components. This modernization ensures greater efficiency, reliability, and ease of maintenance, providing Bell County with a long-term cooling solution for its critical facilities.
