Description

HTS New England provided one 50 TON air cooled split system ClimaCool modular chiller for Brown’s “Supercomputer”. Brown University has teamed up with IBM to install a computer that is more powerful than any other computer in RI and ranks in the top 500 most powerful in the world. The Supercomputer will be used by Brown Engineers as well as other educational institutions around the country to collect and share research data pertaining to medicine, the environment, energy and other complex fields. Previously, researchers at Brown in the Planetary Geosciences Group would send their information from NASA to a computer on campus that would transfer images, taking up to 3 months time. With the new computer, the same amount of work can be done in as little as one day.

Brown’s plan is to eventually add capacity to this multi-million dollar computer. The use of a ClimaCool modular chiller was perfect for this application because it allows for the seamless addition of future cooling capacity.
