A state-of-the-art cardiothoracic hospital demands state-of-the-art equipment – from its imaging tools and diagnostic equipment to its comprehensive heating and cooling system. When Memorial Hermann built its Heart and Vascular Institute on the Memorial Hermann Southwest campus, Wylie and Associates design engineers worked with HTS Texas to design a top tier system with affordable pricing to meet Memorial’s HVAC needs.
The seven-story, 200,000-square-foot-facility is home to variety of guest and clinical areas, including five cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology labs, four cardiovascular operating rooms and 45 patient beds. In addition to meeting rigid environmental and space constraints, HTS Texas was challenged to supply a cost-effective, energy-efficient system that was quiet enough not to disturb nearby surgical suites and patient rooms.
“HTS Texas has a long-standing history serving clients in the health care industry and we are well-versed in the unique – often exigent – task of accommodating strict specifications,” said Robert Aspinall, HTS Texas project manager. “For this project, we worked hand-in-hand with Wylie and Associates on the front-end to design an efficient system for the preeminent Houston hospital. We also coordinated with MLN Company and Vaughn Construction to provide a smooth installation for Memorial Hermann.”
HTS Texas provided 21 McQuay Vision Air-Handling Units, totaling 234,000 cubic-feet-per-minute of airflow for the project. Because the units condition 100 percent outside air and contain high-efficiency filters, the system is an energy saving solution for the institute, Houston’s first freestanding facility devoted specifically to cardiovascular care.
