Success High School opened in Round Rock, Texas in 2014 in order to serve local high school students in need of non-traditional high school education. The 69,000 square foot school was built to accommodate around 400 students and includes a food service kitchen and child care facility. HTS worked with Rabroker and ORA to equip the building with an HVAC system that would provide proper humidity control for classrooms and multipurpose facilities while maintaining energy efficiency to meet 2012 IECC standards and earn LEED Silver certification.
HTS was chosen as the basis of design for the school’s system by providing Daikin solutions, which touted the best value of equipment that met efficiency requirements and featured energy recovery for the large amounts of outside air. Eight Daikin Maverick II rooftop units totaling 285 tons were installed in order to implement energy recovery while generating minimal noise and providing high staging turndown. The system also included one 30-ton Addison Total Rooftop System, which enhanced the building’s energy efficiency in a cost-effective way by utilizing 100 percent outside air with dehumidification control.
HTS worked to meet a strict construction deadline that would have the facility ready for operation at the start of the 2014-2015 school year. In addition to the HVAC equipment, HTS provided a complex and customized controls system to allow the building climate to be easily adjusted to meet diverse needs. The system equipment has an estimated lifespan of 30 years with low maintenance and tight temperature and humidity control and allows for flexible operations throughout the school year.
