Texas A&M University’s Kyle Field has been home to the Texas A&M Aggies since 1904, and was recently renovated to become the largest football stadium in the SEC and the 4th largest in the NCAA, with a seating capacity of more than 102,000. The renovation aimed to produce the most cost effective air conditioning system while maintaining the integrity of design to build a comfortable and innovative venue for college football.
HTS’ Halton units were chosen as the basis of design for the Kitchen ecology units, because of their ability to remove 99 percent of all grease and smoke from the kitchen hoods, which allows the units to be vented outside of the building and generates substantial savings by eliminating the need for fully welded ducts stretching all the way to the roof level. These units also help prevent fire risks and cooking odors to provide a comfortable environment for fans to eat while they watch the Aggie football games. Two Halton Ecoloair units were installed, totaling 6,000 CFM.
The system was also equipped with a 223,000 CFM Daikin Vision bundle that included:
• Ecology units
• Air Handling Units
• Exhaust fans
• Low Velocity High Volume Fans
• VAV Boxes
• Ductless Chilled Water Units
• Variable Frequency Drives
• Grills
• Louvers
• Dampers
• Cabinet Unit Heaters
The renovation of Kyle Field presented unique challenges, as the project had to be divided into two phases to prevent the interruption of both the 2014 and 2015 football seasons. The tight construction schedule led to several last-minute plan changes, and HTS worked closely with DSI and ME Engineers to overcome obstacles and meet deadlines while still ensuring the best value.
