Whataburger needed emergency replacements of their HVAC systems at six locations prior to the extreme heat in the summer months of 2022 to prevent lost revenue from improperly cooled restaurants. Restaurants were forced to close down repeatedly for A/C maintenance in the summer of 2021 as the old units were breaking down and not performing to the expected standard. Management knew the units would not last for summer 2022. One of the biggest challenges was meeting their tight timeline. We could not select hot gas reheat with our units because of the lead time. However, Daikin was the only manufacturer that could meet their quick turnaround request. We were able to substitute the hot gas reheat with APR Rawal Valves to maintain the unit efficiency and ensure a short lead time.
The restaurants needed to remain open for as long as possible, which posed our second challenge. This shrank our installation window to the weekends. Most of the units were rapidly installed in one weekend, allowing Whataburger to retain profits during the week days around the installation time. The stores were able to re-open in a timely manner thanks to the optimal lead time and enjoyed their renovated HVAC equipment that kept them cool for the remainder of the Texas summer heat.
